A Le Pacte release of a Lazennec & Associes, Maia Cinema, Vandertastic production. (International sales: Le Pacte, Paris.) Produced by Gregoire Debailly, Gilles Sandoz. Co-producer, Hanneke van der Tas. Directed by Patricia Mazuy. Screenplay, Simon Reggiani, Mazuy, Patrick Le Rolland. With: Marina Hands, Bruno Ganz, Josiane Balasko, Amanda Harlech, Isabel Karajan, Muftie, Lionel Dray, Olivier Perrier. (French, English, German dialogue)Even those fascinated by dressage will wonder what Patricia Mazuy, her producers and cast thought they were making with "Of Women and Horses." Meant to be the tale of a headstrong woman and a jaded trainer engaged in a battle of wills that will lead to triumph, the clunky results are hobbled by bad dialogue, sloppy editing and poor use of music. No one appears to be holding the reins, though Mazuy ("The King's Daughters") is no stranger to filmmaking. "Horses" will likely be put to pasture following a projected mid-December opening. Working-class Gracieuse (Marina Hands, her face frozen in a look of sullen intensity) is ignored by snobbish elite horse trainers, though her promising talent begs for discovery. She's keen to work with world-famous trainer Franz (Bruno Ganz), but he's under the thumb of supercilious partner Josephine (Josiane Balasko). How Gracieuse succeeds and Franz overcomes his torpor is meant to energize viewers, but the lack of visual acumen and lifeless storytelling stymie involvement. Socialite Amanda Harlech's thesping debut, as Franz's client, is inauspicious, though none of the actors escape the banal characterizations.Camera (color), Caroline Champetier; editor, Mathilde Muyard; music, John Cale; production designer, Eric Barboza; costume designer, Nathalie Raoul. By all accounts, Tim Prepare is definitely an intensely private person. He's been avoiding by using it as Apple's No. 2 executive, however he continues to be named Boss of among the world's best and artistic companies, it's likely he'll be thrust in the spotlight routinely whether he wants it or otherwise. our editor suggests Apple Boss Jobs to consider Another Medical Leave of AbsenceApple Best U.S. Company on Stock Exchange as Thursday Buying and selling StartsApple Tops Exxon Mobil since many Valuable U.S. Company Among Volatile Stock Exchange Apple Reviews Record Quarterly Profit of $7.31 billionApple's OS X Lion Roars Into Mac Application Store Prepare was named Apple's top executive Wednesday after co-founder Jobs walked lower because, because he place it, "I possibly could no more meet my responsibilities and anticipation as Apple's Boss." Jobs did not mention his health, but he's been coping with problems connected with pancreatic cancer not less than seven years. Three occasions he's taken a leave of absence, and three occasions Prepare has completed for him, therefore the former COO isn't any stranger up job. Still, he isn't the visionary that Jobs is, and Apple traders and it is scores of fanatics aren't inclined to deal with him as though he were. STORY: Jobs Resigns as Apple Boss Hence, whenever you will find gossips that Jobs is ill again, Apple manages to lose billions in value. When news broke Wednesday that Jobs was handing the reins to Prepare, the stock sunk 6 percent in after-hrs buying and selling, temporarily knocking about $18 billion from Apple's market cap. Possibly this is an overreaction, because very little should really change under Prepare. Upgrades to apple ipods, iPads, iTunes, AppleTV along with other multimedia wizardry which are within the works continues as though nothing has happened, experts say, especially since Jobs on Wednesday assumed the role of board chairman, so his opinions will probably matter nearly as much as they also have. "Jobs's departure may have no effect on the company,Inch Hudson Square Research analyst Daniel Ernst stated. "It does not change much in the past year, the past 3 years when Jobs first got sick and folks walked up," added Wedbush Investments analyst Scott Sutherland. Even Steve Wozniak, who founded Apple with Jobs in 1976, needs the impact of Jobs is going to be seen for several years whether he's Boss or otherwise. "The standard of those does not change overnight, neither does the standard from the items," Wozniak told Bloomberg TV on Wednesday. And Prepare, 50, is really a quality executive, so far as Jobs can be involved, and that's why he's so well paid out. This past year he earned $59 million, mostly through stock grants or loans. STORY: Analyst: Jobs' Boss Departure May Have 'No Impact' on Apple Jobs employed Prepare from Compaq in 1998 to supervise the manufacturing of Mac computer systems as senior vice president for worldwide procedures. He first offered as temporary Boss in 2004 when Jobs was recuperating from pancreatic cancer surgery, and that he was named COO 3 years later. Al Pacino Didn't Want Michelle Pfeiffer For Scarface and 8 Other Facts Concerning the Gangster Classic
In recognition of Scarface’s approaching Blu-ray release, Universal Galleries located a deluxe soiree on Tuesday evening to celebrate the John P Palma gangster flick which has turned into a machismo cult classic since its poor critical reception in 1983. In the Belasco Theater in downtown La, the big event featured Cuban cuisine, desserts formed like lines of cocaine, a Ludacris concert along with a Q&A panel with stars Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, Robert Loggia and F. Murray Abraham, in addition to Scarface producer Martin Bregman. Using their Scarface-style thrones on stage — bathed in red-colored light and encircled by Roman sculptures, natch — the cast reflected on the movie’s present-day recognition, machine gun injuries and Eddie Murphy. The nine most fascinating facts follow. 9. Al Pacino emerged using the idea to remake the the initial Howard Hawks-directed Scarface, states Al Pacino. When requested the way the John P Palma classic was created, Pacino described, “My first experience was seeing Paul Muni within the Howard Hughes film, the initial Scarface they did in 1932. It had been in the Tiffany Theater within La on Sunset Boulevard. I went and saw that film and known as Marty Bregman after. I stated, ‘I think we're able to do that factor. There’s a remake here.’ And that he, very sensibly, very astutely, got available and set the entire factor together. […] I stated, ‘I gotta be that Tony Montana guy. That’s my license to reside.” 8. Scarface’s signature decadence was John P Palma’s vision. When requested about Tony Montana’s lavish lifestyle, Pacino stated, “It was John’s idea to really make it — a lot of it's outlandishly large but which was always his intent. He saw that as the best way to tell the storyline since it’s type of appropriate using what [Bauer was] saying about this’s insufficient. It’s kind of like cocaine, being hooked on cocaine, that was the s. It’s never enough. It’s like being hooked on money. It by itself is definitely an addiction. It’s about addiction however it was John’s idea to really make it this way.” 7. Pacino and Steven Bauer were so well-practiced they might have taken Scarface on the highway. “There would be a point where i was really practicing at Universal and that we didn’t have sets,” revealed Bauer. “We just had markings from the rooms where we'd do the moments in and that we’d walk-through these moments. We practiced that a couple of days and that we were really like, ‘We might take this on the highway. We're able to really do that like a play on the highway. The nation's touring company of Scarface.” 6. A piece of equipment gun-related injuries stored Scarface’s star about the sidelines for 2 days. While explaining his extended, intense testing period, Pacino revealed, “I got shot! […] I shot off 30 models. I recieve hit using the squibs. I start jumping up up, flying up up and that i land and that i visit grab the gun and you know what? I snapped up the barrel…on the gun that simply shot off 30 models. My hands stuck to that particular sucker. Which was it. I couldn’t get my hands from it. I couldn’t work with two days.” 5. A then-unknown Steven Bauer was told he'd negligence Manny before who audition. “I got really lucky,” Bauer conceded about being cast as Tony Montana’s closest friend. “I was dealing with Stella Adler, an excellent acting teacher in New You are able to City. […] I acquired this call to satisfy the casting director Alixe Gordin. It had been the very first day of casting and also the moment she saw me, she stated, ‘Yeah. You’re Manny.’ Then she known as John P Palma and she or he stated, ‘I’ve got Manny here.’ It had been the first day of casting and she or he stated, ‘Go see John.’ And So I visited see John and that he stated, ‘Yeah, you appear like Manny.’ And that he stated, ‘I’m likely to call Marty Bregman in L.A.’ I visited L.A. and that i saw Marty and also the moment we met, he explained, ‘I’m likely to let you know something. You’re going to get this done film. You’re likely to play this role.’ I stated, ‘I haven’t auditioned yet.’ And that he stated, ‘Just take my word for this. You’re likely to play Manny.” 4. F. Murray Abraham’s mother doesn’t care how large of the star Al Pacino is. He shouldn’t be utilising foul language. “My mother’s Italian and she or he’s still around, she’s about 97 years of age,” Abraham told the crowd. “She’s serious about being Italian. She’s very happy with it and she or he stated [having seen Scarface], ‘Murray, I saw the film. Do you know Al to not use that language? It’s harmful to an italian man , people.’ I stated, ‘Mom, it’s the script. He stated what he needed to say.’ She stated, ‘He’s a large star! He doesn’t need to talk this way.’ 3. Pacino might not remember it, but he didn't initially wish to cast Michelle Pfeiffer as Elvira Hancock. While talking about the film’s female casting, Bregman stated, “Michelle Pfeiffer…that would be a fight due to everyone around was heading out for your. Regardless of what [Al] stated before, [he was] a star at that time. Michelle wasn’t known at that time.” “And you'd that sense about her,” Pacino offered. “Because I most likely might have stated no.” “You did refuse!” responded Bregman, inciting laughter from Pacino and also the entire theater. 2. The entertainment industry hated (and Eddie Murphy loved) Scarface if this first arrived on the scene. Just request Liza Minnelli. “I remember a business screening using the heads of two galleries,” remembered Pacino. […] I went into Sardi’s following the show — these were all at Sardi’s following the show — and that i walk in, and you will know movie The Producers, once they walk in and perform the Nazi song? The crowd within the restaurant were really like statues, like wax figures. And So I arrived and there is Liza Minnelli who hadn’t seen [Scarface] and she or he emerged in my experience and she or he stated, “Al, what have you caused by these folks?” […] However I remember Eddie Murphy was there and that he emerged in my experience and stated, [inside a place-on Eddie Murphy impression] “I loved it, Al!” 1. Despite the fact that they admit that Scarface’s popularity an unexpected, Pacino & Co. also agree their film was perfect, because of the testing time these were given. “We weren’t just moving in there and doing the work,” described Bregman. “We were built with a lengthy duration of rehearsals. When we've got to carrying out, i was primed and that we shipped. “The movie becomes a part of our existence,” stated Abraham. “That’s it. It might be real to us. Which’s what chose to make this particular film perfect. It’s an ideal film.” “Also, the reinvention,” added Pacino. “The proven fact that it arrived on the scene and it wasn't really received that well therefore we didn't feel as if i was in something which would be lasting. Usually, it’s unusual that the movie opens which is instantly designed a classic. It’s not kind of eviscerated the way in which it was and given disrespect. As time continued, it remained there coupled with this rebirth, this constant rebirth that's similar to magic.”
Monsters University might feature Michael 'Mike' Wazowski and James P 'Sulley' Sullivan's college days but the prequel film also saw the production team heading back to school too."At Pixar we do our homework before we start work and that meant literally going back to school," said director Dan Scanlon, before joking: "Most of us went to art school and have no idea what a real university looks like.""It's an animated college movie," Scanlon said, before exclusively revealing the younger designs for Sully and Mike and showing off some of the other characters. "You've got your cool monsters, your nerdy monsters and even goth monsters."He also revealed that Steve Buscemi would return as the voice of Randall Boggs.Billy Crystal and John Goodman looked like they were having fun in a video message played onscreen to the crowd, before Crystal stepped off camera and through the curtains to show up live on stage to an appreciative audience.Talking about the voice acting he said Goodman and himself were having a lot of fun being back together after 10 years, adding that, "college is a long way away for me!"It'll be quite a wait for Monsters University: "Our film is still two years out but we wanted to show you as much as we can," Scanlon said.

Jason Momoa certainly has mastered the art of playing butt-kicking, half-naked, long-haired savages, as proven by this weekend's "Conan the Barbarian." But, as excited as we are here at MTV Movies Blog, we couldn't help wonder what a movie about his other recent brutish leading role would look like. Blame it on our "Game of Thrones" withdrawals, but with "Conan" coming out this weekend I couldn't resist trying to dream up what "Khal Drogo: The Movie" would look like. Sure, he may or may not be coming back next season, but if the great Khal had his own prequel spin-off big screen action romp, it probably would look something like this... First Act: The Pillage If there's anything the Dothraki are known (and infamous) for, it's their tendency to rape, pillage and conquer everything in their path. Of course, this doesn't set up a very likeable hero, but Momoa's Khal Drogo charms us right off the back by not being as nasty as some of his other barbarians. The Dothraki lifestyle is set up, and we all get to see Drogo being more of a general badass than he typically is. Second Act: The Princess But then, the plot thickens! Illyrio Mopatis, a wealthy Pentosi merchant, is calling for the greatest Dothraki Khal to marry the rightful princess of Westeros, Daenerys Targaryen, and return to conquer her home country. Since Drogo is the greatest Khal of his time, he willingly steps up to the challenge. Third Act: The Challenge Maybe it's because we're such suckers for chances to see more of the Dothraki society, but we would totally look forward to a chance to see the Khals face off against one another (and have more people end up liking Drogo even more!). Drogo of course kicks butt and takes names in order to win the right to marry the Westerosi princess, and returns to Illyrio to claim his prize. Conclusion: His Sun-And-Stars Finally, the Khal's chance for redemption has arrived! The Targaryen princess might not seem to like him very much at first, but we all know how their love trajectory happens (hint: it's happy... sort of). Like the "Game of Thrones" series as compared to the books, this ending will give fans of the show a chance to see Daenerys and Drogo's wedding from the Dothraki's perspective, and add plenty of insight to his character as a whole. Long live Khal Drogo! Tell us what you think of our movie proposal in the comments section below or on Twitter!

MTV"Awkward" MTV has renewed high school comedy Awkward for a second season. The comedy, about a 15-year-old girl with a blog who's anxious to fit in among her peers, has been picked up for 12 episodes set for early 2012. "We love the show and Awkward's comedic voice really shines through in such a brilliant way in these episodes," MTV head of programming David Janollari told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday. "[Creator] Lauren Iungerich's voice is unique and strong and incredibly resonant with our core young audience." The pickup comes on the heels of record ratings for the Ashley Rickards comedy, which hit a series high last week, drawing 1.9 million viewers on Tuesday night, up from the 1.7 million who tuned in to the July 19 series premiere. Last week's episode also delivered a series high of a 2.0 rating in the 12-34 demo, up 21 percent week-over-week and tops in its time period among the group. The pickup continues MTV's relationship with Iungerich, with the cable network recently announcing that it would be going into production on her pilot, Dumb Girls, a story of love struck twentysomethings. Should Dumb Girls get the series order, Janollari was open to a potential pairing. "They certainly would live harmoniously on our air," he said. "They both have incredibly strong voice and Lauren's writing is exceptional in our opinion. They certainly will speak to our core audience in a very similar way." MTV has continued to push into scripted programming, renewing freshman series Teen Wolf for a second season in July, with a number of scripted series coming down the pipeline, including half-hour comedy Death Valley bowing later this month as well as the January launch of dramedy I Just Want My Pants Back, with comedy Inbetweeners in production for next year. "[The pickup] marks yet another successful push into scripted for us and it's a further diversification of our schedule," Janollari noted. The pickup comes a few days after MTV canceled The Hard Times of R.J. Berger. Awkward will air seven additional episodes this season, with new installments airing Tuesdays at 11 p.m. on MTV. EMMYS: Why Movies & Small-Series Combined Since the film and small-series groups happen to be combined by theTV Academy, its interesting that in thisfirst year from the new configuration voters predictably favoredthe more costly and elaborate small-seriesformat with 4 from the 6 nominations. One reason behind the modification to begin with was due to theperceived paucity within the amounts of minis qualified, so go figure.Really among individuals challengers that didnt result in the cut I'd arguethat possibly two other minis got conned:Sundance Channels Carlos whichwas the darling of everyfilm festival it joined starting with Cannes.AndBBC AmericasLuther also deserved a place nevertheless its harsh subject material concentrating on an excellent detective who requires a walk about the negative side might have switched off thosewho preferred thesleaze factor of Reelz Channels The Kennedys rather. But how about thosethat ended up getting the jerk? Heres thehandicapping. CINEMA VERITE (Cinemax) This made-for-Cinemax movie told the storyline from the Noisy Family who livedtheir dysfunctional lives before a documentary film crew thus becoming thetemplate for the modern large number of reality TV programs. The film received mixed reviews and is not generallyconsidered HBOs finest hour but Diane Lane shone vibrantly inside it and lifted thematerial, by divine intention obtaining a Best Actress Emmy nomination. Thinking about theadvance age ofmany voters, the memory ofthe real Noisy family as well as their TV meltdown might be too vivid for just about any narrative film to beat. Still its 9 overallnominations including Pointing for Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulciniare impressive althoughthe insufficient a writing jerk is not a great omen. That one is indeed a lengthy shot to fight the small-series tide in thecategory and could just find yourself a bridesmaidthis season. DOWNTON ABBEY (PBS) This stunning small-series fromMasterpiece Theatre is really a period pre-WWIdrama focusing on the conflicts all around the Crawley family and theirservants. British dramas are frequently bathed with Emmy love which is noexception garnering 11 nominations overall including writing, pointing, andacting nods for Elizabeth McGovern and Maggie Cruz. There's no giant small like John Adams, Gang of Siblings, or even the Off-shore to stomp throughout itdespite Cinemax rival Mildred Pierces whopping 21nominations. An excellent script from Oscar champion Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park),an impressive castthat includes HughBonneville, and fine production values madecritics swoon. This is actually the someone to watch coming up to the leading in the outdoors. Another months are already planned for fans who just couldntget enough. THE KENNEDYS (Reelz Funnel) This $25 million 6-hourminiwidely criticized as having fun with the details was jettisoned by theHistory Funnel which initially commissioned it and lastly found a homeon the small-seen Reelz Funnel.I figured Emmy voters might turn their backson it, too, but an outsized 10 nominations demonstrated me wrong. Never overestimatethe tastes of Emmy voters as individuals nominations place it in the overall game, likely atthe cost of the far superior Carlos and Luther. Stars Greg Kinnear, Craig Pepper, and Tom Wilkinson reeled in Emmy nods aswell but there is no fascination with the small on paper and pointing groups. A bad sign. Reelz did send a 3-DVDset from the show to any or all Academy people however it may likely have only a fightingchance inside a less strong year and this isn't an inadequate year. This is actually the longest ofshots. It will you need to be content to obtain a party invitation towards the party. MILDRED PIERCE (Cinemax) Perennial champion HBOs large small this year was this 5-part remake ofMildred Pierce, the 1945 noir fromJames M. Cains book that won Joan Crawford her Best Actress Oscar. It islikely it is going to do the sameEmmy-smart for star Kate Winslet who runs using the role that pays closer attention tothe original novel.Pierce itself facesfierce competition for that crown within this category because at its heart it isjust a cleaning soap and also the overlong adaptation exposes a number of its defects. But youcannot ignore the truth that it's leading all comers within this years Emmy racewith 21 nominations, an overall total bloated by 6 acting bids. Just depending on individuals rawnumbers it might appear to possess wide support over the Academy. Reviews werentover the moon and rankings were under expected, but directorTodd Haynes gave it verve and elegance which might be enough to transport your day. Butthis isn't any slam dunk even when its nearest rivals(Downton Abbey and Too Large To Fail) received barely morethan 1 / 2 of Ms. Pierces haul. THE Support beams Of The World (Starz) A legendary 8-part small-series attempt togive Starz some instant Emmy cred based onKen Folletts bestseller.A sterling cast brought by IanMcShane assisted to show this old-fashioned small right into a contender for Academyvoters who fondly remember if this kind of large-scalewas catnip for that broadcast systems.Although individuals voters granted it 7 nominations, thats the littlest totalin the course andincludes no reference to acting, writing, or pointing. For Chris Albrecht who had been accustomed to everything Emmy glory when he was at Cinemax,Support beams reps a little walking stone back to Emmys golden circle and controlling to land among the valued slots within this very competitiveyear is victory enough for theStarz. TOO Large TO FAIL (Cinemax) This riveting drama in line with the non-fiction book of the identical title by New You are able to Occasions financial journalist Andrew Ross Sorkinis is easily the most current and contemporary from the nominees.Playing Treasury Secretary HankPaulsonis Emmy-nominated William Hurt who turns in a single ofhis best performances in a long time. However the whole cast stands out includingBilly Crudup,Topher Sophistication, Cynthia Nixon,James Forest, and Paul Giamatti.Oscar champion Curtis Hanson directed and wouldhave taken the film category this season hadit still been around by itself (particularly with 11 noms). But alas Too Large To Fail is most likely now they cannot win in thecombinedcategory against much stiffercompetition.

The actual experiences of New York City subway riders are dramatized in a collection of 10 intriguing and very different vignettes. The tales showcase an ensemble of familiar faces, and range from stories of compassion and love to reflections on violence and loss. Among them: a disabled beggar quarrels with a woman and ruins her shoes with his wheelchair, provoking onlookers to wrath and pity; a skittish tourist proves to be her own worst enemy; a newlywed trysts with a mysterious sexpot; a commuter helplessly witnesses a suicide attempt; and, in the most affecting segment, a young woman grieves over her mother's imminent death.
