Of Women and Horses (Sport de filles)

A Le Pacte release of a Lazennec & Associes, Maia Cinema, Vandertastic production. (International sales: Le Pacte, Paris.) Produced by Gregoire Debailly, Gilles Sandoz. Co-producer, Hanneke van der Tas. Directed by Patricia Mazuy. Screenplay, Simon Reggiani, Mazuy, Patrick Le Rolland. With: Marina Hands, Bruno Ganz, Josiane Balasko, Amanda Harlech, Isabel Karajan, Muftie, Lionel Dray, Olivier Perrier. (French, English, German dialogue)Even those fascinated by dressage will wonder what Patricia Mazuy, her producers and cast thought they were making with "Of Women and Horses." Meant to be the tale of a headstrong woman and a jaded trainer engaged in a battle of wills that will lead to triumph, the clunky results are hobbled by bad dialogue, sloppy editing and poor use of music. No one appears to be holding the reins, though Mazuy ("The King's Daughters") is no stranger to filmmaking. "Horses" will likely be put to pasture following a projected mid-December opening. Working-class Gracieuse (Marina Hands, her face frozen in a look of sullen intensity) is ignored by snobbish elite horse trainers, though her promising talent begs for discovery. She's keen to work with world-famous trainer Franz (Bruno Ganz), but he's under the thumb of supercilious partner Josephine (Josiane Balasko). How Gracieuse succeeds and Franz overcomes his torpor is meant to energize viewers, but the lack of visual acumen and lifeless storytelling stymie involvement. Socialite Amanda Harlech's thesping debut, as Franz's client, is inauspicious, though none of the actors escape the banal characterizations.Camera (color), Caroline Champetier; editor, Mathilde Muyard; music, John Cale; production designer, Eric Barboza; costume designer, Nathalie Raoul. When news broke Wednesday that Jobs was handing the reins to Prepare, the stock sunk 6 percent in after-hrs buying and selling, temporarily knocking about $18 billion from Apple's market cap. Possibly this is an overreaction, because very little should really change under Prepare. Upgrades to apple ipods, iPads, iTunes, AppleTV along with other multimedia wizardry which are within the works continues as though nothing has happened, experts say, especially since Jobs on Wednesday assumed the role of board chairman, so his opinions will probably matter nearly as much as they also have. "Jobs's departure may have no effect on the company,Inch Hudson Square Research analyst Daniel Ernst stated. "It does not change much in the past year, the past 3 years when Jobs first got sick and folks walked up," added Wedbush Investments analyst Scott Sutherland. "The standard of those does not change overnight, neither does the standard from the items," Wozniak told Bloomberg TV on Wednesday. And Prepare, 50, is really a quality executive, so far as Jobs can be involved, and that's why he's so well paid out. This past year he earned $59 million, mostly through stock grants or loans. Al Pacino Didn't Want Michelle Pfeiffer For Scarface and 8 Other Facts Concerning the Gangster Classic

In recognition of Scarface’s approaching Blu-ray release, Universal Galleries located a deluxe soiree on Tuesday evening to celebrate the John P Palma gangster flick which has turned into a machismo cult classic since its poor critical reception in 1983. In the Belasco Theater in downtown La, the big event featured Cuban cuisine, desserts formed like lines of cocaine, a Ludacris concert along with a Q&A panel with stars Al Pacino, Steven Bauer, Robert Loggia and F. Murray Abraham, in addition to Scarface producer Martin Bregman. Using their Scarface-style thrones on stage — bathed in red-colored light and encircled by Roman sculptures, natch — the cast reflected on the movie’s present-day recognition, machine gun injuries and Eddie Murphy. The nine most fascinating facts follow. 9. Al Pacino emerged using the idea to remake the the initial Howard Hawks-directed Scarface, states Al Pacino. When requested the way the John P Palma classic was created, Pacino described, “My first experience was seeing Paul Muni within the Howard Hughes film, the initial Scarface they did in 1932. It had been in the Tiffany Theater within La on Sunset Boulevard. I went and saw that film and known as Marty Bregman after. I stated, ‘I think we're able to do that factor. There’s a remake here.’ And that he, very sensibly, very astutely, got available and set the entire factor together. […] I stated, ‘I gotta be that Tony Montana guy. That’s my license to reside.” 8. Scarface’s signature decadence was John P Palma’s vision. When requested about Tony Montana’s lavish lifestyle, Pacino stated, “It was John’s idea to really make it — a lot of it's outlandishly large but which was always his intent. He saw that as the best way to tell the storyline since it’s type of appropriate using what [Bauer was] saying about this’s insufficient. It’s kind of like cocaine, being hooked on cocaine, that was the 󈨔s. It’s never enough. It’s like being hooked on money. It by itself is definitely an addiction. It’s about addiction however it was John’s idea to really make it this way.” 7. Pacino and Steven Bauer were so well-practiced they might have taken Scarface on the highway. “There would be a point where i was really practicing at Universal and that we didn’t have sets,” revealed Bauer. “We just had markings from the rooms where we'd do the moments in and that we’d walk-through these moments. We practiced that a couple of days and that we were really like, ‘We might take this on the highway. We're able to really do that like a play on the highway. The nation's touring company of Scarface.” 6. A piece of equipment gun-related injuries stored Scarface’s star about the sidelines for 2 days. While explaining his extended, intense testing period, Pacino revealed, “I got shot! […] I shot off 30 models. I recieve hit using the squibs. I start jumping up up, flying up up and that i land and that i visit grab the gun and you know what? I snapped up the barrel…on the gun that simply shot off 30 models. My hands stuck to that particular sucker. Which was it. I couldn’t get my hands from it. I couldn’t work with two days.” 5. A then-unknown Steven Bauer was told he'd negligence Manny before who audition. “I got really lucky,” Bauer conceded about being cast as Tony Montana’s closest friend. “I was dealing with Stella Adler, an excellent acting teacher in New You are able to City. […] I acquired this call to satisfy the casting director Alixe Gordin. It had been the very first day of casting and also the moment she saw me, she stated, ‘Yeah. You’re Manny.’ Then she known as John P Palma and she or he stated, ‘I’ve got Manny here.’ It had been the first day of casting and she or he stated, ‘Go see John.’ And So I visited see John and that he stated, ‘Yeah, you appear like Manny.’ And that he stated, ‘I’m likely to call Marty Bregman in L.A.’ I visited L.A. and that i saw Marty and also the moment we met, he explained, ‘I’m likely to let you know something. You’re going to get this done film. You’re likely to play this role.’ I stated, ‘I haven’t auditioned yet.’ And that he stated, ‘Just take my word for this. You’re likely to play Manny.” 4. F. Murray Abraham’s mother doesn’t care how large of the star Al Pacino is. He shouldn’t be utilising foul language. “My mother’s Italian and she or he’s still around, she’s about 97 years of age,” Abraham told the crowd. “She’s serious about being Italian. She’s very happy with it and she or he stated [having seen Scarface], ‘Murray, I saw the film. Do you know Al to not use that language? It’s harmful to an italian man , people.’ I stated, ‘Mom, it’s the script. He stated what he needed to say.’ She stated, ‘He’s a large star! He doesn’t need to talk this way.’ 3. Pacino might not remember it, but he didn't initially wish to cast Michelle Pfeiffer as Elvira Hancock. While talking about the film’s female casting, Bregman stated, “Michelle Pfeiffer…that would be a fight due to everyone around was heading out for your. Regardless of what [Al] stated before, [he was] a star at that time. Michelle wasn’t known at that time.” “And you'd that sense about her,” Pacino offered. “Because I most likely might have stated no.” “You did refuse!” responded Bregman, inciting laughter from Pacino and also the entire theater. 2. The entertainment industry hated (and Eddie Murphy loved) Scarface if this first arrived on the scene. Just request Liza Minnelli. “I remember a business screening using the heads of two galleries,” remembered Pacino. […] I went into Sardi’s following the show — these were all at Sardi’s following the show — and that i walk in, and you will know movie The Producers, once they walk in and perform the Nazi song? The crowd within the restaurant were really like statues, like wax figures. And So I arrived and there is Liza Minnelli who hadn’t seen [Scarface] and she or he emerged in my experience and she or he stated, “Al, what have you caused by these folks?” […] However I remember Eddie Murphy was there and that he emerged in my experience and stated, [inside a place-on Eddie Murphy impression] “I loved it, Al!” 1. Despite the fact that they admit that Scarface’s popularity an unexpected, Pacino & Co. also agree their film was perfect, because of the testing time these were given. “We weren’t just moving in there and doing the work,” described Bregman. “We were built with a lengthy duration of rehearsals. When we've got to carrying out, i was primed and that we shipped. “The movie becomes a part of our existence,” stated Abraham. “That’s it. It might be real to us. Which’s what chose to make this particular film perfect. It’s an ideal film.” “Also, the reinvention,” added Pacino. “The proven fact that it arrived on the scene and it wasn't really received that well therefore we didn't feel as if i was in something which would be lasting. Usually, it’s unusual that the movie opens which is instantly designed a classic. It’s not kind of eviscerated the way in which it was and given disrespect. As time continued, it remained there coupled with this rebirth, this constant rebirth that's similar to magic.”

'Conan The Barbarian': Where's The Khal Drogo Movie?

Jason Momoa certainly has mastered the art of playing butt-kicking, half-naked, long-haired savages, as proven by this weekend's "Conan the Barbarian." But, as excited as we are here at MTV Movies Blog, we couldn't help wonder what a movie about his other recent brutish leading role would look like. Blame it on our "Game of Thrones" withdrawals, but with "Conan" coming out this weekend I couldn't resist trying to dream up what "Khal Drogo: The Movie" would look like. Sure, he may or may not be coming back next season, but if the great Khal had his own prequel spin-off big screen action romp, it probably would look something like this... First Act: The Pillage If there's anything the Dothraki are known (and infamous) for, it's their tendency to rape, pillage and conquer everything in their path. Of course, this doesn't set up a very likeable hero, but Momoa's Khal Drogo charms us right off the back by not being as nasty as some of his other barbarians. The Dothraki lifestyle is set up, and we all get to see Drogo being more of a general badass than he typically is. Second Act: The Princess But then, the plot thickens! Illyrio Mopatis, a wealthy Pentosi merchant, is calling for the greatest Dothraki Khal to marry the rightful princess of Westeros, Daenerys Targaryen, and return to conquer her home country. Since Drogo is the greatest Khal of his time, he willingly steps up to the challenge. Third Act: The Challenge Maybe it's because we're such suckers for chances to see more of the Dothraki society, but we would totally look forward to a chance to see the Khals face off against one another (and have more people end up liking Drogo even more!). Drogo of course kicks butt and takes names in order to win the right to marry the Westerosi princess, and returns to Illyrio to claim his prize. Conclusion: His Sun-And-Stars Finally, the Khal's chance for redemption has arrived! The Targaryen princess might not seem to like him very much at first, but we all know how their love trajectory happens (hint: it's happy... sort of). Like the "Game of Thrones" series as compared to the books, this ending will give fans of the show a chance to see Daenerys and Drogo's wedding from the Dothraki's perspective, and add plenty of insight to his character as a whole. Long live Khal Drogo! Tell us what you think of our movie proposal in the comments section below or on Twitter!
